Fifi’s Cakery hand crafts artisan wedding cakes for luxury weddings and events in Cambridge and Cambridgeshire. Each bespoke cake is made from scratch using the finest fresh ingredients & with traditional baking techniques perfected over many years working within the industry. Instead of the usual additives and preservatives we use fruits and vegetables to enhance the flavour and naturally extend the freshness of our cakes.

As a Montessori teacher in a previous career, Fifi combines her cake passion with her love of teaching by running cake classes in between the wedding seasons.

I was first taught how to bake by my beloved Nan who used to make delicious cakes and would decorate them using designs sketched by my Grandad. I still have aged recipe sheets complete with Nan’s hand written adjustments scribbled in the corners. Even all these years later combining both grandparents’ artistic elements in creating Fifi’s Cakery I still hear myself repeating my Nan’s words of wisdom to ensure perfect bakes every time.

Once I had my own family and started making my children’s birthday cakes, other parents asked me to make their children’s novelty cakes and slowly I evolved into a regular cake maker. My son, in particular, was important to my skills growth as each of his cakes, usually based on his passion for cars, had to be incredibly detailed and specific. For one of his early birthdays I had made a Toyota rally car complete with Castrol logos and was incredibly excited to reveal the finished cake to him. He carefully inspected every aspect and finally delivered his verdict of it being very good but the headlights weren’t quite right!! This made me determined to improve my skills so every detail of every cake I make must pass the fussy little boy test!

On emigrating to a mountain village in Switzerland I discovered that baking at altitude is an entirely different beast. The thin air and dry atmosphere leads cakes to explode in ovens and most of the time spill over the top of the cake tin and end up on the oven floor. After many trials and a lot of cake ending up in the dogs, I managed to master the perfect Alpine baking method. It was whilst based in this idyllic part of the world that I first set up my cake making business and where my first wedding cake commissions were born. After 8 years abroad we returned home to the UK and in amongst relocating and settling essentially foreign children into an English way of life, I decided to put the business on hold and instead spent a couple of years working for other bakeries teaching adults how to bake successfully and how to create all the different techniques involved in cake decoration.

But after a while, the need to design and make my own edible creations became too strong to ignore and I relaunched my cake business, this time specialising in my passion for wedding cakes. Having seen some shockingly poor customer service and kitchen hygiene within other bakeries I decided there had to be a good cake making company that provided amazingly tasty cakes, with beautiful designs that could be adapted on every level to meet with customers needs, in a spotless hygienic manner and all delivered with a friendly, efficient and personal touch. Thus Fifi’s Cakery was reborn.

Fifi provided us with the most beautiful cake for our wedding on Friday. The design, flavour and Fifi herself were amazing. All of our guests loved the three flavours that we had and the hardest part was picking from all of the delicious flavours at our tasting. Thank you so much for managing to accommodate us bringing forward the wedding with just 36 hours notice! We will be back for more cake soon I’m sure of it!!!
